Leg Extension Into Puck

Our leg extension into puck drill is a great drill to work on our modified half butterfly. This drill focuses on putting pucks into low danger areas or bad ice areas.

We start the drill in our butterfly, but we ditch our gloves, to hold a stick horizontally. This allows the puck to go into the pad and not allow the goalie to use the stick to direct the puck. Holding our stick horizontally allows us still to have our hands out in front and help us balance.

As pucks are shot in on the ice, the goalie uses our eyes and head to track the puck into the pad. When the puck is about to hit the pad, they extend the leg into the puck to help direct it into the bad ice area. The opposite knee gets driven into the ice to help balance and keep us upright and stable.

The goalie kicks out the puck into the bad ice area and keeps eye contact with the puck to follow it all the way out. Then, we reset for the next shot.
