Eyes On Low

This is a great drill that not only focuses on moving up and down the Y pattern of the crease, allowing us to stay square and under the puck, but also great to focus on our stick activation and rebound control.

Shot one

Goaltender starts on either post. Shooter one is in the high slot, and shooter two is at the top of the circle dot area on either side. On the signal, the goaltender pushes the top of the crease into our good ice area, and the shooter, shooter one releases a long low shot along the ice. The goaltender must downward track using their stick and recover back to their feet following the rebound to the corner.

Shot two

Once the goaltender recovers to the rebound, the coach will yell reset and give the signal to reset on shooter one. Once the goalie regains depth into the good ice area, shooter one will pass the puck down the zone to shooter two that is standing at the dot top of the circle area. The goaltender will readjust moving down the Y standing on their feet without sliding to the next position of the puck to shooter two. Shooter two will shoot the puck low to the far pad, attempting to create a bad rebound for shooter one. Driving the net, the goaltender must downward track and use a stick on the longer low shot to deflect the puck out of harm’s way, not giving up a bad rebound into the middle of the ice slot area.
