This is an advanced skating drill utilizing edge work and rotations while we are in our butterfly. Many times when we are in the crease, we have to make sure we can change directions moving up and down the in our butterfly for rebounds or quick plays around the net, we have to be able to utilize rotations out of our body and be able to push on the correct angle down the Y for this drill. Ella, our demo goalie, is going to start in a butterfly, and she’s going to push off her back edge. We can use any line on the ice. It does not need to be in the crease to make this drill effective. She is going to push off her back edge with a power push sliding along the ice. She is going to catch her front edge, and then she is going to push through her heel forward, rotating her entire body in a 180-degree motion around so she can push off that edge and then repeat with her opposite foot.
